Olpejeta sits astride the Equator line at 0/o degrees. It is one of the most popular private reserves within the Mt. Kenya area, the park hosts a variety of game including the big 5, there is also a chimpanzee sanctuary under the Jane Godwall trust, and also a white and black rhino sanctuary. It is important to note that olpejeta was the home of the last male northern white rhino. Accommodation at olpejeta is the sweet waters tented camp and the olpejeta house. Game drives in this park are relatively easy with a high probability of spotting the big five. Mt. Kenya forms a beautiful backdrop on the horizons especially in early morning and evening.
Safari Program: Itinerary
Day1. 07.00hrs. You are picked from your Nairobi hotel, residence or from the airport for a 4 hour journey towards Mt. kenya region. Passing through the central highlands, enjoy the views of rural Kenya with its fertile land dotted with coffee, Pineapples and tea bushes. You will also cross several rivers originating from the Aberdare ranges and Mt. Kenya, notably the chania, Mathioya, Sagana and Tana rivers. Your guide will stop you at the Equator line to witness the coriolis effect of gravity which is a traditional experiment used for centuries by the local folks.
12.30hrs: Arrive at the Serena sweetwaters tented time for lunch.
15.30hrs: Proceed for an afternoon game viewing drive where you have a chance to spot some of the big 5 of Africa. You will also visit the chimpanzee sanctuary this afternoon.
19.00hrs: Dinner and overnight at the Sweetwaters tented camp or the Olpejeta house.
Day 2.06.30hrs: Early morning game drive in search of more game, this is a good time to visit the Rhino sanctuary and a good time for Photography with Mount Kenya clear view seen in the background.
08.30hrs: Return to Lodge for proper breakfast and refreshments.
010.00hrs; Check out and leave the sweetwaters tented camp.
Embark on a game drive en route to the exit of the sweetwaters game sanctuary.
Lunch on this day is on own arrangements, your Guide will assist with the best dining options in this area. You can drive to the nearby Nanyuki town, or have lunch at the trout tree restaurant on the way to Nairobi.
Arrive in Nairobi around 5:30 pm.
