A magical place, Aberdare ranges stands at 3995m (Satima peak) and is one of the most important water catchments areas. This thick indigenous rain forest constitute a variation of flora and fauna, a belt of bamboo merges with smaller trees like cedar, oak, podo and figs. The Aberdare is home to a variety of mammals; Colobus, Sykes, Vervet monkeys, baboons, forest hogs, genet cats, elephants, Buffaloes, Waterbucks among others. A visit to the Aberdare will get you into a peaceful log cabin in some of the best tree hotels in Kenya. Check into any of the two only game lodges Treetops or the Ark for a solitary moment and unforgettable experience. The treetops is particularly famous because the princess of England ascended to the throne upon his father’s death in 1952 while on a visit. Both hotels are strategically set facing a massive water hole where animals visit day and night for a drink and a bath. You will be adequately engaged through several activities available here including Nature walks, Bird watching, fishing and game drives.
DAY1. 8:00am: Early morning departure from your hotel or residence for a comfortable 3 hour journey towards Mt. kenya region, passing through the central highlands. Enjoy the views of rural Kenya with its fertile land dotted with coffee, Pineapples and tea bushes. This central highland area is considered as Kenya’s bread basket.
You will cross several rivers and streams originating from the Aberdares ranges and the Mt.Kenya Catchment forest notably the Chania river, Mathioya and Sagana. All this tributaries form the major Tana river that creates the seven forks hydroelectricity dams and the Mwea irrigation scheme before finally draining into the Indian Ocean.
11:00am. Arrive the Mweiga gate of the Aberdares. Embark on 2 hour game drive in this sprawling rain forest in search of a variety of animals including buffalos, elephants, bushbuck, water buck, hyenas and a variety of primates that dwell here.
Check into the Ark or the treetops in good time for lunch. Your afternoon will be at leisure, watch the
animals from the hotel’s raised deck as they come to the water hole for a drink and a bath. A selection of cuisine will be served for dinner before retiring to your quite cabin for the night. Nocturnal game viewing is taken so seriously that there is a buzzer in each room which sounds if an unusual animal turns up at the waterhole. {FB}
DAY2. 7:00am. Breakfast is served in the dining hall overlooking a watering hole, capture the morning moments as you enjoy your breakfast. Embark on a morning nature walk with a resident guide, this will take you through beautiful forest trails within the hotel precincts, a good time for bird watching some of about 250 species found within the Aberdares, you will also come across several monkey species including the colobus, sykes and vervet monkey. Return to lodge at midmorning for loading up and departure. Lunch will be on your way back to Nairobi. Arrive your Nairobi hotel or residence in the evening.
