Set in the Coastal region of Kenya, Tsavo West National Park covers 7065km² but the terrain is much more varied than that of Tsavo East. It ranges from 200-1000m in altitude. The northern sector is bush land with scattered native baobab trees and acacia shrubs. Evidence of volcanic activity dating several hundreds of years can be seen here by visiting the shetani and Chaimu lava deposits. The A109 road Nairobi-Mombasa highway and a railway line divide it from the adjoining Tsavo East National Park. Together with neighboring ranches and other protected areas, they all comprise the Tsavo Conservation and ecological area.
A wildlife safari in this park is the best way to see Kenya’s wildlife close-up in its natural environment. Tsavo West is home to the largest population of red-ochre colored elephants as well as members of the rest of the “Big 5” of Africa (buffalo, African lions, leopards and rhinos). There is also a host of Kenyan birds and other animals, both large and small. Another attraction is the Mzima spring, one of Africa’s iconic natural Spring that is fed by hundreds of underground streams originating from mount Kilimanjaro and a main source of water supply to Mombasa.
Tsavo West has several accommodations located in distinct areas of the park notably the Kilaguni serena Lodge, Ngulia Lodge, Ngulia bandas, Finch Hattons camp and the Severin Safari camp.
Safari Program.
DAY1. 6:30am. Depart from your hotel early in the morning for a 5 hour drive along the Mombasa – Nairobi highway towards the Tsavo west national park. With a scheduled stop on the way, we arrive at the park through the Voi River gate. Game drive commences immediately after entry in search of the Big five in this vast and beautiful national park. We are en-route to our lodge or camp for Lunch. After check in and Lunch, a Short rest follows before venturing out for an evening game drive, we will be looking out for the lions and the elusive leopard together with several elephants, Gazelles and a variety of birds. We return to our lodge by sunset for dinner and overnight. {FB}
DAY2. 6:30am.
Early morning game drive to capture predator activities at dawn, enjoy a magnificent sunrise through beautiful scenery of roaring hills and towering escarpments, this drive will also take you to the Mzima springs where crystal clear water has collected through underground streams fed by Mt. Kilimanjaro, this is an important biodiversity area that supports life not only in Tsavo but also in the larger coastal area since it is the main water supply for Mombasa. Return to Lodge for breakfast with an en route game drive. At midmorning load up for a drive back to Mombasa, your Lunch will be in Voi town. Proceed after Lunch to arrive Mombasa hotel or residence in the evening. {B}
