Samburu, in Kenya’s semiarid north is a beautiful wildlife haven. Here you will spot Africa’s big cats – lions, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. Some animals are unique to this northern game reserve only this includes; Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, kudu{rare}, Beisa Oryx, gerenuk, Somali Ostrich and the Vulturine Guinea fowl. You will find this scenic and semiarid landscape quite dramatic.The Ewaso Nyiro River cuts across the middle of Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves, this is a lifeline resource where elephants, buffalos and all other animal species gather for a drink. The reserve is located within the boundaries of the colourful semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen.
The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here, including the Big Five- lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and elephant. It is in the Mara where that most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti in search of water and pasture.
Take the opportunity to fly over the Mara in a Hot air Balloon provided at extra cost. The balloon package includes a champagne breakfast in the wild! If you can spare the money, viewing abundant game afloat a balloon is an unforgettable experience.
You will also have a chance to meet and interact with the traditional Masai nomadic people who are deeply entrenched in their rich culture, a visit to one of their homesteads will be an exciting moment filled with great hospitality and a brilliant performance of traditional songs and dances conducted by colorfully decorated Morans and their women.

Day 1:
Nairobi- Samburu National Reserve.
0600 hrs – You are be picked from your Hotel and transferred to the Wilson Airport. Flight to the Samburu National Reserve takes off at 0745 hrs. You arrive at Samburu airstrip after 1 hour. You will be met at the airstrip by the hotel resident guide. Embark on a game drive immediately after you access the Park’s main entrance and en-route to the Samburu elephant bedroom camp for Lunch and check in. After lunch you have an early afternoon free to relax and also familiarize with the camp sorroundings, later proceed on for an afternoon game drive, from 1530 hrs until sunset.
Day 2:
Samburu National Reserve exploration.
Full day in Samburu Reserve with the option of morning and an afternoon game drives. Your guide could also recommend an early departure with picnic breakfast, returning to the lodge by mid-morning to avoid the noon scorching sun when most animals seek shelter in the shade. This day will enable you to track some of the animals that are only adapted to this region including the Somali ostrich, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, the gerenuk and the vulturine guinea fowl. Variety of birdlife is also found here. Samburu is also host to 3 of the African big cats the Lion, Leopard and the cheetah. The rugged hills and rocky escarpments form a beautiful backdrop of this reserve. During the midmorning, opt to visit the colourful samburu nomadic people for a presentation of their rich culture and history.

Day 3:
Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Early breakfast in Samburu, then you are transferred to the private Kalama Airstrip for your midmorning flight to Masai Mara, this is a comfortable 1 hour flight over the beautiful landscape of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. You land in the middle of Masai Mara game reserve and are met and welcome by our guide and representative. The Mara offers a dramatic landscape of an endless glorious savannah grassland dotted by spots of baranite trees, acacia bush shrubs, riverine forests and rolling hills, this is the ultimate game arena with the highest population of big cats. You are driven straight to our reserved Mara Serena safari lodge for you check in and lunch. Take a brief afternoon relaxation enjoying the lodge strategic location set on a hill and offering guests great views of the larger reserve.
At 1600 Hrs. we proceed on your first game drive in the sprawling Mara reserve, the huge concentration of wildlife here is awe inspiring, you will possibly see different prides of Lions, cheetahs, a Leopard, Hyenas and Jackals and also observe different variety of herbivores. You return to your Mara Serena safari lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4:
Masai Mara Game Reserve exploration.
Opt for an optional early morning Balloon Safari over the Mara plains, this is a one in a lifetime event to explore the width and breath of this magnificent reserve from a bird’s eye view, you will get a 360 degrees sight of the entire reserve, this is complemented by a champagne breakfast in the wilderness upon landing. Alternatively you can take an early morning and afternoon game drives taking midmorning and early afternoon breaks for relaxation, visiting a local traditional village or taking a nature walk and also to enjoy a sumptuous hot lunch in the Lodge. Your exploration in the Mara will be a rewarding experience for the abundance of wildlife and birdlife found here, and if your stay coincides with the annual wildebeest migration you are assured of witnessing this great phenomenon which is a thrilling life changing experience. At an extra cost a sundowner or a bush meal can be arranged and presented in the wilderness. Enjoy the Mara game drives returning to the Mara Serena lodge by sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 5:
Masai Mara –Nairobi.
At 06:00Hrs we arise to undertake a sunrise early morning game drive, this is the last game drive in Masai Mara as we wind up our safari. Great sightings can happen and it could end up as another extra ordinary game drive. We enjoy 2 hours of uninterrupted game viewing adventure before returning to the lodge for proper breakfast and to prepare for our departure back to Nairobi. We shall clear and drive to the Airstrip for our scheduled flight to Nairobi which will take about 45 Minutes. Our guide will be waiting to pick you from Wilson Airport and drive you to a restaurant for Lunch. Later you can spend your afternoon shopping around the city before finally being dropped at your hotel.
This marks the end of your 5 days classic safari over Kenya full of exciting memories.
